On the 10th of September 2023, we’re participating in the New Forest Half Marathon, 10k, 5k, and Woodland Walk  to raise money for Tommy’s, the baby charity, in support of MD’s, Laura and Richard, who lost their baby girl, Bebe Mae, at 37 weeks

Why we chose to support Tommy’s?

Our managing director Richard Porter suggested Tommy’s as charity of the year because of their great work regarding health in pregnancy.

Here’s Richard’s story in his own words:

“Three weeks before our baby was due to arrive into our lives, her mother started to experience some discomfort. The doctors examined her, placed the microphone on her belly, and we waited for that magical, distorted siren of a heartbeat, familiar to any soon-to-be parent. We were met with nothing but silence.

Our beautiful little girl Bebe Mae was delivered on 17th October 2022 at 37 weeks, but never took a breath.

She was perfectly formed; fingers and toes, little nose and tightly shut eyes. She looked peacefully asleep, and the anxiety that we had been experiencing about becoming first-time parents faded into insignificance, met instead with the realisation that we would miss out on a lifetime of getting to know this beautiful little girl.

The Chief Nation team has chosen to support Tommy’s in honour of Bebe’s memory. By raising money, we want to support Tommy’s in funding vital research into miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature birth so we can keep on saving babies’ lives.”

The New Forest Marathon

Snaking through New Forest National Park, the New Forest Marathon has been a mainstay of the UK running calendar for the last 38 years and is widely recognised as one of the top 10 running events in the country.

The New Forest Marathon team host a range of events on the day to cater to all ages and fitness levels, ranging from junior runs (200m – 1km), a forest walk, 5k, 10k, and half marathon, alongside the full marathon for experienced runners.

The race is an accessible and inclusive event for all people, and even those who aren’t participating can expect a day full of entertainment and activities suitable for the whole family. In partnership with New Forest District Council/Sport Hampshire and IOW, Sport England, Run Britain, and NHS Choices, the New Forest Marathon aims to inspire an active lifestyle and contribute to reducing obesity.

The event is immensely proud of its community-led organisation and renowned for its fundraising partnerships, thus far generating over £1.33 million for local causes.

In the words of our Chiefs

“It’s a real honour to be running and fundraising for Tommy’s. I’m only here because of a resilient mother who endured three unsuccessful pregnancies before me, and I’m grateful for the chance to help bring attention to an issue that is more common than many may realise.”

“I’m honoured to be championing Chief Nation’s support for Tommy’s. This is such an important cause and one that is so close to me and my loved ones, that it only makes me want to raise more money and run all that bit faster, in memory of my niece, Bebe Mae. Tommy’s dedication to saving babies’ lives and providing support to parents who have been affected is very admirable and one I will continue to support indefinitely.”
